ParkinsonCare
The first virtual network of cooperative medicine for Parkinson in Europe is born
How did we help Zambon to protect Parkinson affected people during Covid-19 emergency? Through an operation resulting in over 4 thousand free remote nurse care services for affected people all over Italy.
Challenge
In March 2020, Italy was the first European country to be affected by Covid-19 “world pandemic”. Parkinson affected people – over 260.000 in Italy – are one of the most endangered groups of patients.
Careapt – a young startup belonging to Zambon group – and Confederazione Parkinson Italia Onlus decided to provide ParkinsonCare (the service of remote nurse assistance for Parkinson affected patients) for free. The aim was to reduce outpatient consultations only to the strictly necessary cases.
Actions
On April 11 – World Parkinson Day – we launched the ParkinsonCare campaign to raise the awareness of media, Institutions and public opinion on the difficult situations suffered by people with neurodegenerative disorders; we do not often talk about them, but they are the main cause of disability in the world.
The huge media and social impact of the campaign contributed to make ParkinsonCare an international best practice and inspired other prominent scientific realities to become partners. That is how the first virtual network of cooperative medicine for Parkinson in Europe was born.
