Street art is tinged with the colors of solidarity

A creative box, a media event and campaign to raise the awareness and knowledge about deaf-blindness and support the rights of deafblind people all over the world.

Challenge

In Italy, at the beginning of Covid-19 emergency, the needs of people with disabilities completely disappeared – particularly in the case of deafblind and multi-sensory impaired people, who mainly use their touch to communicate and count for more than 189 thousand in our country. Lega del Filo d’Oro responded by starting the Yarn Bombing: labs for the development of occupational activities - like knitting – aimed at stimulating the residual skills of those who cannot see nor ear.

Actions

To launch the “Yarn Bombing” by Lega del Filo d’Oro in 19 Italian cities stretching from north to south, public spaces, monuments, parks, and symbolic objects were worn with colorful objects made by the deafblind patients followed by the Foundation. Moreover, to re-shed light on this specific impairment, on June 27 – the International Deaf-blindness Day – we sent the media a creative box and organized a phygital event with a strong emotional impact to give voice to users, families, staff, and spokespeople of the Foundation.
