How we helped Facile.it establish itself as an "opinion maker" on the growing online fraud issue by introducing a new tool to fight it, the podcast.

Times are changing, and so are scams: but it only takes 3 minutes (of podcast) to protect yourself.

In just one year, over 8 million Italians were scammed. Young and educated people were among the victims, but only 4 out of 10 cases were reported, often due to shame. With Facile.it, we carried out an unprecedented investigation into a growing phenomenon such as online fraud, identifying the typical profile of the fraud victim. Facile.it then developed a defense tool, a 3-minute podcast.

Challenge

In 2021, over 700 online scams occurred every day in Italy. And what happened in 2022? Together with Facile.it, we tried to understand how these frauds occur, commissioning a new survey from a research institute, which outlined the typical profile of a victim’s fraud. Our challenge was to support Facile.it in establishing itself as a reference point for consumers in the maze of online fraud, offering them an innovative tool with a simple and direct language, a series of podcasts with practical tips and advice in the Security Space of the Facile.it website.

Actions

We collected the most relevant results of the investigation (such as millions of scammed Italians, the most affected users, the tools and methods used) and presented them in advance in Milan to a selected group of radio and television journalists to ensure maximum visibility. After the presentation, news about the new podcast and the unprecedented investigation was picked up by major national media with excellent results: over 900 releases in two weeks, including 624 articles and 310 radio releases, for a total audience of over 73 million and a big public debate.
